Ask a Pro: Q. What’s the Best Cable for TV and Internet?, by Scott Varn - Electronic House

"I recently purchased a house that isn’t wired for TV and has an antenna hookup in one room. I consider this to be a good thing, because now I can run whatever cable would be best to receive a quality signal for the next 10+ years. The problem is that I’m not sure what is best to run for TV and Internet. Is coax or cat or fiber optic the best? Cost does play a factor, but I am willing to spend some money to do the job right. What should I run?"

Google Labs: In Quotes

"What is 'In Quotes'?
The 'In Quotes' feature allows you to find quotes from stories linked to from Google News. These quotations are a valuable resource for understanding where people in the news stand on various issues. Much of the published reporting about people is based on the interpretation of a journalist. Direct quotes, on the other hand, are concrete units of information that describe how newsmakers represent themselves. Google News compiles these quotations from online news stories and sorts them into browsable groups based on who is being quoted.

Similar to article selection and placement on Google News, quotes and their speakers are determined automatically by a computer program and we don't guarantee the completeness or accuracy of the information you may see. The dates you see represent when the article in which the quote appears was added to Google News. The views expressed in the quotes do not necessarily reflect the views of Google Inc. or its employees."

Gaming's most impractical outfits | GamesRadar

"Games and fashion have never exactly gone hand in hand. PC players wearing non-ironic t-shirts about binary code. Developers wrapping their characters in leather from head to toe and thinking it’s still ‘the look’. Any Nintendo tee that isn’t adorned with ‘know your mushrooms’. Let’s face it; trying to inject fashion sense into the gaming world is a lost cause.

But while the medium has never been famed for snappy dressing, there are worse things than being unfashionable. Like fighting in your kecks. Against a giant lizard. A giant lizard who’s carrying a big sword. Yep, dressing impractically for the situation is something the following characters are all guilty of. And these guys and girls don’t just need a new tailor; they need a good mental professional to help them through these clothing catastrophes."

IGN Babeology: Sara, Week 1

"Crystal gets some company in our Babeology classroom, as Sara joins the eye-candy celebration with a look that's all her own. With her Sailor Moon-pink locks and her 'come hither' stare, Sara is the closest IGN has ever gotten to a real-life anime chick. And like the song says, she's making us really think the wrong thing."

Atari Modern Classics : : The -Minus World : Your Distinguished Source For Video Game Comedy: "Before the over the top, logo heavy madness of today’s next-gen masterpieces became the visual norm for video game cover art, there was the basic beauty of the Atari 2600’s approach to package design. Clean composition and vague descriptive text came together to create something that was just so…intangibly fresh and mesmerizing. But what if the biggest games of now fell into the hands of a 2600-era artist? We’d have Atari Modern Classics, a vintage look at our new favorites through the pixelated beer goggles of an era where simplicity was king."

Role Models Red Band Triler

Universal Studios has released a new Red Band trailer and poster for the November 7 comedy, Role Models, starring Seann William Scott, Paul Rudd, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jane Lynch, Bobb'e J.Thompson and Elizabeth Banks.

In the film, Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott play Danny and Wheeler, two salesmen who trash a company truck on an energy drink-fueled bender. Upon their arrest, the court gives them a choice: do hard time or spend 150 service hours with a mentorship program. After one day with the kids, however, jail doesn't look half bad.

DIY Bittorrent Patch Server

"A few weeks ago, I ran across a couple of articles about a university in Holland that was having difficulty getting all of their Microsoft patches out to all of their systems. What did they decide to do?

Buy more servers? Nope!

Increase bandwidth? Nope!

Use a program that has been essentially outlawed in North American universities? Yep!

The university decided, on the advice of their IT consultant, that they would use bittorrent to deploy the patches.

This really got me thinking about how I would go about creating my own U.Holl server (as I like to call it). These are some of the thoughts that I have come up with."

Arcade Mania: The Turbo-charged World of Japan's Game Centers: Brian Ashcraft, Jean Snow

"Home of Sega, Nintendo, and Sony, Japan has a unique and powerful presence in the world of video games. Another thing that makes Japan unique in the gaming world is the prevalence of game arcades. While the game arcade scene has died in the U.S., there are 9,500 'game centers' in Japan with more than 445,000 game machines.
Arcade Mania introduces overseas readers to the fascinating world of the Japanese gemu senta. Organized as a guided tour of a typical game center, the book is divided into nine chapters, each of which deals with a different kind of game, starting with the UFO catchers and print club machines at the entrance and continuing through rhythm games, fighting games, shooting games, retro games, gambling games, card-based games, and only-in-Japan games.
Covering classic games from Space Invaders to Street Fighter, games that are familiar to Americans in their home console versions (Rock Band, Guitar Hero and Dance, Dance Revolution), as well as the unique, quirky games found only in Japan, Arcade Mania is crammed full of interviews with game makers and star players, and packed with facts about the history, background and characteristics of each game, all lavishly illustrated with photographs and game graphics. This book is a must-have for gamers everywhere."

Wii ISO Loader demonstrated on video running "backup" copy of Zelda - Engadget

"Is this the day, is this the hack that frees the Wii console to finally run your legal (or, eh hem, otherwise obtained) 'backup' games? As the story goes, Waninkoko, the latest name to emerge from the hacking underground, has developed a 'work in progress' v0.1 Wii backup ISO loader for the Wii Homebrew Channel that will run backed-up game ISOs converted with a 'special program' -- no modchip required. If true then the whole thing smacks of the original Xbox font exploit that turned that console into a hackers playground and noisy, all-media playing powerhouse. In support of the claim, TehSkeen has posted a video demonstrating the loading and execution of a backup Zelda game. If Waninkoko can deliver this to the masses, then the demand for a proper Wii storage solution is about to grow exponentially."

Windows Product Key And License Finder

"If you want to setup your computer system again you need to have the licenses an serial numbers at hand for all the software programs that you have purchased and registered. This does include the Windows product key but also other serial numbers for applications like Nero, Office, VMWare and pretty much every other application.

Instead of searching for the keys in your emails, manuals and recipes you could use another approach. License Crawler is a sweet little application that scans the Windows Registry for Windows product keys and other serial numbers and licenses.

If you want to find the license or find the serial number for a product that you have installed on your system then License Crawler could be your best bet. It is also the optimal solution before installing software on a system."
